Nationality American
Name: Brian Scales
Position: Captain
Position details: Captain / Rotational Captain
Nationality: South African
Languages: English

Certificates/Education: Yachtmaster 200 ton, Unlimited Radar Watch Keeper, Power Boat Instructor, Jet Ski Instructor
Languages: English, Afrikaans

Captain Brian Matthew Scales is from George, South Africa, and has more than a decade of experience working in the yachting industry. He spent 6 years on board a 200’ world cruising charter yacht before making his way to smaller boats. Prior to yachting, Captain Brian was a professional animal trainer, specializing in big cats. He hand-raised the first white tigers in Africa and was the head animal trainer to the animal park in South Africa, specializing in husbandry training for all animals. With a strong belief in being a hands-on captain, Captain Brian is involved in all aspects of the yacht. From handling guest relations and yacht management to interior service and engineering/deck maintenance, all while providing five-star service at all times. Having been in the tourism industry for so long, ensuring guest and crew satisfaction is a natural trait of his. Captain Brian wants to make experiences as memorable as possible by tailoring each trip to the individuals on board. He likes to give guests as many options as possible so they have control over their holiday. His career has taken him through the Caribbean, Bahamas, Mediterranean, East Coast of the United States, and Scandinavia. Captain Brian loves the outdoors, and when not at sea, he enjoys surfing, bodyboarding, snowboarding, fishing, camping and golfing.

Name: Vernon “Cubby” Deas
Position: Captain
Position details: Captain / Rotational Captain
Nationality: South African
Languages: English

Captain Cubby was born in South Africa, and in 2009, he started his yachting career in Cape Town as a deckhand on a 50-foot Voyager catamaran. Since then, his work at sea has taken him to destinations in Africa, Asia, the UK, Central America, the US, and the Caribbean.

He’s had many memorable experiences over the years, including the time he assisted the US Coast Guard in rescuing three sailors from a sinking vessel one night about 100 miles off the coast of Puerto Rico.

Now based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Vernon brings his passion and knowledge to M/Y BEACHFRONT II as Captain. As the leader of the crew, his goal is to create a fun and progressive work environment while providing the highest quality of service for charter guests. In addition to his yachting certifications, he is skilled in diving, fishing, and other water sports, making him an invaluable resource for both his guests and his crew.

Name: Regardt Booysen
Position: Mate
Position details: First Mate
Nationality: South African
Languages: Afrikaans, English

Born in Middelburg, Mpumalanga, and raised along the sun-soaked coastline of Durban, South Africa, Redge grew up with an adventurous spirit and a creative eye. With two brothers by his side and the ocean as his playground, his early years were filled with sport, photography, and a passion for discovery.

Before embarking on his yachting journey, Redge pursued a diverse professional career — from architectural drafting and lecturing to hospitality and portrait photography. He even played professional rugby at club level, proudly representing the Junior Springboks. His creative talent has led him to exhibit alongside master artists and have his photography featured on the cover of leading South African publications.

Redge began his yachting career in 2019, drawn to the industry’s adventure, challenges, and opportunity to explore the world. With over three years on busy charter yachts — including MY Laurel, MY Princess Lona, MY Eros, MY Far Nite, MY CStar, MY Ariadne, and MY Endless Summer — he brings a wealth of hands-on experience, professionalism, and a calm, guest-focused approach to life at sea.

Currently serving as Mate on board Beachfront II, Redge is a dedicated team player with a passion for watersports, deck operations, and guest engagement. His diverse background — paired with a Yachtmaster 200T certification — allows him to bring both technical expertise and creative energy to every charter.

An avid traveler and ocean lover, some of his favorite cruising grounds include the crystal-clear waters of the Exumas, Bahamas. Off the yacht, Costa Rica holds a special place in his heart for its rich culture, warm people, and unspoiled beauty.

When not on deck, you’ll likely find Redge behind a camera lens capturing unforgettable moments for guests, teaching photography tips, or enjoying a game of pickleball, golf, or table tennis.

Redge’s life motto is simple: Carpe Diem – Seize the Day. He believes life is all about embracing the moment, creating meaningful memories, and leaving people and places better than he found them.

With his positive energy, creativity, and dedication to guest experience, Redge looks forward to welcoming you aboard Beachfront II and helping create memories that will last a lifetime.
